Model Rural Health Research Unit

The objective establishing of Model Rural Health Research Unit is to bring the latest research technology and the specialist conducting studies at the doorsteps of the rural people. They shall undertake research and find solution to the health problems prevailing in the communities to which the Medical College serves. This unit is one of the FIVE such units across India and the first to be inaugurated.
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Secretary, Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi lighted the Kuthuvillaku as per the tradition and inaugurated the newly constructed Model Rural Health Research Unit New Building containing Research Laboratories today (20/06/2015) at 10.00 A.M. at Government Primary Health Centre at Kallur, Tirunelveli.

Dr. K. Kolandaswamy, Director of Public Health, Govt. of Tamil Nadu congratulated the team at NIE and TVMC for their efforts
Dr. R. Vimala, Director of Medical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. Lauded the efforts of the TVMC faculty and said it was a model for the entire country
Dr. Sithy Athiya Munavarah, Dean, Tirunelveli Medical College, Tirunelveli Outlined the aims of theTVMC faculty and its commitment to the project. She encouraged the faculty to do larger epidemiological studies in the coming years and said TVMC should become a world class destination for medical education and research
Dr. Sanjay M Mehendale, Director, National Institute of Epidemiology, welcomed the gathering. He congratulated the efforts of the CPWD and teams at NIE and TVMC for their efforts at speedy implementation of the project
